Trade, economic and investment cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands
The Kingdom of the Netherlands is one of the priority trade and economic partners of Ukraine within the EU.
In 2016 Netherlands possessed the 6th place among the EU countries for the volume of bilateral trade in goods (7th in 2015, 5th in 2014) with 5% share (4,8 % in 2015 р. and 4,9% in 2014 р.), the 6th position for the volume of trade in service (5th in 2015 and 4th in 2014) with 4,6% share (4,7% in 2015 and 6% in 2014).
In 2016 the bilateral turnover of goods mounted by 13,6% and amounted to $1543,2 million. The Ukrainian export increased by 10% and amounted to $996,4 million while import increased by 20,8% and reached $546,8 million. The positive trade balance for Ukraine herein was $449,6 million.
The basic positions in the structure of Ukrainian export to the Netherlands in 2016 were: fats and oils of the animal or vegetable origin (32,1%), cereals (20,4%), black metals (14%), seeds of oil plants (6,9%); remnants and waste of the food industry (5,5%), meat and nutrition sub-products (3,4%), electrical machines (4%)
The key import positions were: nuclear reactors, boilers, machines (12%), plastics and polymers (10,4%), means of on land transportation (9,8%); pharmaceutical products (8,2%), cacao and cacao products (7,4%); tobaccos (4,4%), sugar and confectionaries (1,9%).
The tendency of the bilateral trade in goods and services’ growth remained in 2017.
In the 1st quarter of 2017 the bilateral turnover of goods mounted by 12,9% and amounted to $443,8 million. The Ukrainian export increased by 11,9% and amounted to $310,4 million while import increased by 15,3% and reached $133,4 million. The positive trade balance for Ukraine herein was $117,0 million.
During the 1st quarter of 2017 the bilateral trade in services increased by 43,6% and amounted to $63,5 million. The Ukrainian export increased by 23,7% and amounted to $39,1 million while import increased by 31,2% and mounted to $24,4 million. The positive trade balance for Ukraine herein was $14,7 million.
As of 1.04.2017 in terms of investment to the economy of Ukraine the Netherlands possessed the 2nd place after Cyprus with $6207,2 million total volume of investment. The amount of investment grew by 6,2% since the beginning of the year. The share of the Dutch investment is 16,3% of the total FDI in Ukraine.
Around 500 companies with the Dutch capital are registered in Ukraine. The largest traditional investors are «Royal Dutch Shell», «ING Ukraine», «Rabobank», «Philips», «Akzo Nobel», «Damen Shipyards», «Unilever Export».
