Trade, economic and investment cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands
The Netherlands is one of the key economic partners of Ukraine in the EU.
In 2018, the Netherlands was ranked 4th in trade in goods and 5th in trade in services with Ukraine.
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in January-September 2018 the total turnover increased by 4.35% compared to 2017 and amounted to 1897.77 million USD. Ukraine exported goods and services for 1249.53 million USD, imported for 648.24 million USD. The trade surplus for Ukraine amounted to 601.29 million USD.
Ukraine exported goods to the Netherlands for 1113.76 million USD, imported for 554.84 million USD. The trade surlus in goods amounted to 558.9 million USD.
The main commodity groups exported from Ukraine are: grains (30.0%); fats and oils (15.8%); ferrous metals (13.2%); meat and edible offal (8.3%); seeds and oilseed fruits (7.2%); electric machines (6.2%), residues of the food industry (5.2%).
The following commodity groups are dominating imports into Ukraine: means of transportation (11.8%); nuclear reactors, boilers, machines (10.8%); mineral fuels; oil and products of its distillation (8.0%); pharmaceutical products (7.6%); cocoa and cocoa products (6,6%); plastics and polymer products (5.8%); tobacco products (4.9%).
In January-September 2018 the volume of trade in services increased by 19.6% and reached 229.173 million USD. Exports of services to the Netherlands grew by 13.0% to 135.77 million USD, while imports increased by 21.8% to 93.403 million USD. The trade surplus in services in 2018 amounted to 42.367 million USD.
The Netherlands is the 2nd largest investor into the Ukrainian economy (as of October 1, 2018 total investments amount to 6.4527 billion USD which makes 20,2% of their entire volume).
The largest Dutch investors are Royal Dutch Shell, ING, Rabobank, Philips, Unilever, Louis Dreyfus Holding, Akzo Nobel and others.
Trade relations between Ukraine and the Netherlands fall under the provisions of the Deep And Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) which is a part of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.
