The Head of State informed the deputies of the European Parliament on the situation in Donbas. Petro Poroshenko emphasized that Russia and Russian-backed militants did not fulfill the security conditions of the Minsk agreements hindering transition to the political process. The President noted the need for coordination of actions for de-occupation of Crimea and termination of human rights violation on the peninsula.

Petro Poroshenko praised ALDE’s unwavering support for territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and firm condemnation of Russian aggression against Ukraine and illegal annexation of Crimea.

The Head of State noted: “My country is now facing one of the most difficult periods in its history. But we believe that we will manage to stop the aggressor, liberate Ukrainian territories, conduct reforms and implement the Association Agreement”.

In the course of the meeting, the parties stressed the necessity of intensifying joint efforts on countering Russian propaganda both in Ukraine and the EU.

The European MPs assured of their willingness to speed up the adoption of the decision on the introduction of the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens by the EU in autumn. “Ukraine has fulfilled its part of obligations. Now it is the EU’s turn to observe its obligations,” Petras Austrevicius said.

The Head of State urged the European MPs to facilitate prompt completion of ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU in the context of the results of the consultative referendum in the Netherlands.
