The Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) is an intergovernmental organisation in the area of private international law (also known as conflict of laws), that administers several international conventions, protocols and soft law instruments.
The HCCH dates back to 1863 when Tobias Asser convened the first Hague Conference. Today, the work of this organization is focused on conventions on private international law.
Ukraine is a member of the HCCH since 2003 and a party to 13 conventions in the field of private international law. The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine is the National Organ under these conventions.
The Council on General Affairs and Policy as well as the Council of Diplomatic Representatives are the governing bodies of the HCCH. The Permanent Bureau is the organization’s Secretariat and has its seat in The Hague. The Embassy’s legal advisor represents Ukraine in the day-to-day work of the HCCH’s organs, and a representative of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine partakes in dedicated events and sessions of the governing bodies.
