During the visit, Minister Klimkin met with his Dutch counterpart Bert Koenders, President of the Senate of the Dutch Parliament Ankie Broekers-Knol, Christen Democratisch Appèl (CDA) leader Sybrand Buma, Democraten 66 (D66) MPs Kees Verhoeven and Sjoerd Sjoerdsma.
During meetings a broad range of topics were discussed, including the situation in eastern Ukraine and the continuation of negotiations in the "Normandy format" to end the policy of destabilization of the situation in the Donbass by Russia and the return of Russia to fulfilling its obligations under the Minsk agreements; bilateral cooperation; as well as European agenda, especially the completion by the Netherlands of the ratification process of the Association Agreement in a way that would be acceptable to all parties - Ukraine, the Netherlands and the EU.
Minister Klimkin emphasized the impossibility of amending the text of the Agreement as it has already been ratified by Ukraine, 27 EU member states and the European Parliament.
Foreign Minister of Ukraine also noted that the Association Agreement is an effective platform for not only to deepen relations between Ukraine and the EU or Ukraine-Netherlands bilateral cooperation, but also to promote basic European values on the continent thanks to which the European Community has achieved economic strength, peace and prosperity.
According to him, the Agreement is extremely important for Ukraine as a basis for implementing systemic reforms, building a new democratic state.
