On 2 September 2024 Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Dick Schoof visited Zaporizhzhia. During the negotiations in Zaporizhzhia, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dick Schoof focused primarily on discussing ways to strengthen defense against Russian terror and bring a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

'The key aspects are air defense, the supply of Patriot systems and missiles, and the expansion of our F-16 fleet. We have ideas regarding this. Additionally, defensive packages for Ukraine: shells, equipment, and sanctions against Russia — all of which prevent Russia from opening new fronts against Ukraine,' said the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted that the Netherlands is a leader in the air defense and F-16 coalitions, as well as in implementing the point on justice of the Peace Formula, and is participating in joint efforts to hold Russia accountable for the war.

'It is important that we work together to ensure that both Putin personally and all those implementing his madness are held accountable for this aggression — for the killings of Ukrainians, the deportation of children, and all other crimes of this war,' the Head of State stressed.

Additionally, the parties discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia, providing shelters, supporting Ukraine's energy sector, and preparing for the upcoming NATO summit, which will be held in the Netherlands.

Dick Schoof assured further assistance to Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression and announced a new aid package of over 200 million euros, which will support the energy system and include equipment for demining, medical aid, and more.

In Zaporizhzhia, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Schoof met with veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war: warriors from the Armed Forces, Territorial Defense, and the National Guard. They have fought on various fronts and defended Ukraine both since 2014 and 2022.

As part of the visit to Zaporizhzhia — on the first day of the new school year, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Schoof, visited the first thematic lesson in one of the educational institutions of Zaporizhzhia. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dick Schoof spoke with students from the 1st and 11th grades. Dick Schoof also gifted the students several well-known Dutch books translated into Ukrainian."
