On June 12-13, 2026, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko paid a working visit to the Netherlands.
As part of a working visit to the Netherlands, he met with First Deputy Speaker of the Senate Boris Dittrich and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ingrid Michon-Derkzen.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to express gratitude to the Dutch side for its steadfast support of Ukraine throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion. Oleksandr Korniyenko briefed his Dutch counterparts on the current security situation and the challenges requiring urgent solutions, particularly the need to strengthen protection against Russian missile attacks.
The sides also discussed the return of civilians held in Russian captivity. This issue requires greater attention from the international community.
Special attention was given to Ukraine’s European integration. Ukraine expects the opening of the first negotiation cluster as part of the EU accession process.
Oleksandr Korniyenko participated in Liberal Partnership Days 2026 and held a series of meetings with Dutch officials and politicians, including First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, Finance Minister Elco Heinen, Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Vincent Karremans and VVD parliamentary group leader in the House of Representatives Ruben Brekelmans.
The discussions focused on strengthening support for Ukraine, increasing financial assistance, advancing the use of frozen Russian assets, deepening interparliamentary cooperation, supporting Ukraine’s EU integration, and expanding cooperation in technology and infrastructure.
Oleksandr Korniyenko also joined Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel on the panel “The Next Frontier: AI-Driven Defense Solutions” on the sidelines of Liberal Partnership Days 2026. He highlighted Ukraine’s cutting-edge experience in developing AI-driven defence capabilities.
